The Netherlands supports training of Indonesian government leadership

The Netherlands and Indonesia cooperated to strengthen the institutional capacity of the National Resilience Institute of The Republic of Indonesia (Lemhannas RI) through a entitled “Capacity Building in International Topics in Education and Studies”. The multiyear project took place within the framework of the Initiative for Capacity Development in Higher Education (NICHE), and has enhanced the management and implementing capacity of Lemhannas RI to deliver gender sensitive and relevant education, training and research, responding to the requirements and changing needs of policy and decision makers of the Indonesia.


The project involved many stakeholders including Nuffic as the implementing agency and MDF Training and Consultancy as the project coordinator from the Netherlands.

During the project closing ceremony held on Friday 12 May 2017, Agus Widjojo, the Governor of Lemhannas said “Enhancing both human resources and institutional capacity is vital for Lemhannas’ to be able to achieve its goals: to become a qualified, credible, and world-class institution in the area of national resilience”.

Highlighting some remarkable achievements of the project, Agus Widjojo continued by saying: “the NICHE project has assisted us in developing a quality management system to obtain ISO 9001:2015, and the development of the PPSA curriculum which includes upgrading of: international approach, teaching skills and English proficiency of trainers.

His Excellency Mr. Rob Swartbol, Ambassador of the Kingdom of the Netherlands to said” we are very pleased with the result the project has achieved. We need bright people to solve current issues in our countries and beyond. He also expressed his keen focus to continue the intensive cooperation between Indonesia and the Netherlands.  

In a reaction, Mervin Bakker, Director of Nuffic Neso Indonesia said: “the Netherlands offers world-class education in general and has particular strengths in international education and training for government officials. In my view this makes the partnership with Lemhannas in this NICHE project so productive”. 



The Netherlands Initiative for Capacity development in Higher Education (NICHE) is a Netherlands-funded development cooperation programme. By sustainably strengthening higher education and technical and vocation education and training (TVET) capacity in partner countries, it contributes to economic development and poverty reduction.
