Indonesian higher education system

Indonesian higher education system is classified into 3 (three) types.

Indonesian higher education system is classified into 3 (three) types i.e. vocational and technical, academic, and professional education run by academies, polytechnics, colleges, institutes, or universities.

  1. Vocational and technical education prepares the students for jobs by acquiring particular applied knowledge at the maximum, equivalent to the undergraduate programme. It includes Diploma I (D1), Diploma II (D2), Diploma III (D3), and Diploma IV (D4).
  2. Academic education, both undergraduate (bachelor's degree) and postgraduate (master’s degree, doctoral and postdoctoral), aim at the acquisition of specific disciplines of science, technology, and/or arts.
  3. Professional education prepares those who completed undergraduate studies for jobs by acquiring particular skills and expertise.

Higher education institutions confer vocational and technical, academic, or professional degrees in accordance with the education programmes provided.
